How Are We Teaching Tobago History and Identity to Children Born and Raised Outside the Island

Many second- and third-generation Tobagonians grow up with limited exposure to the island beyond family stories and occasional visits. This topic invites parents, elders, and youth to discuss how Tobago’s history, values, and cultural practices are being passed down abroad. Are schools, churches, and cultural groups doing enough? What role can digital archives, storytelling projects, and diaspora-led initiatives play in preserving a strong and accurate sense of Tobagonian identity?

We need more child-friendly resources online. YouTube and short videos could make a big difference.

Storytelling from elders is still powerful. We shouldn’t lose that personal connection.
