How Can Diaspora Voices Be Formally Included in Policy Oversight Without Undermining Local Authority

Many Tobagonians living abroad contribute financially, professionally, and culturally to the island, yet have limited formal input into governance. This discussion explores structured ways diaspora voices could be included through advisory councils, online consultations, or policy feedback mechanisms without overriding the authority of residents. Participants are encouraged to share examples from other small island states and suggest models that balance respect for local realities with the global perspective of Tobagonians overseas.

Advisory councils make sense, especially for economic and education policy. We don’t live there daily, but we have exposure and resources that can help.

Local voices must always lead, but consultation doesn’t mean control. Respect goes both ways.
